When Spencer Prewett left Archspire last month, it was announced that the band would be holding open auditions to find out who’ll be holding shit down behind the kit. Well, they weren’t joking as they released a video earlier today showing the band going over nine promising submissions from drummers on YouTube.

Drummer Spencer Prewett had left Archspire after over a decade and a half. Prewett had been with the band since its beginning back in 2009, making him part of pretty much every major achievement they celebrated over the years. Finding his replacement is going to be one of the more important things the band’s going to have to figure out shortly.

The remaining members of Archspire jokingly said they had different criteria for what they wanted in their next drummer in the video. Things like how hunky they are, what their hair situation is, and someone who’s “very smart but willing to play ignorant music.” What they got were some killer clips of drummers throwing down on the band’s particular brand of tech death.

The band had earlier exclaimed that Spencer Prewett set the bar for technical death metal drumming and that he is leaving a void that will be incredibly difficult to fill.

Archspire is a Canadian technical death metal band from Vancouver. They have released four studio albums. The band was formed in 2007 as Defenestrated but changed their name to Archspire in 2009. Members were guitarists Tobi Morelli and Dean Lamb, drummer Spencer Prewett, bassist Jaron “Evil” Good, and vocalist Shawn Haché. Haché left to join Mitochondrion and was replaced by Oliver “Oli Peters” Aleron.

The band earlier had no intentions of stopping doing music and with work on their fifth album in the process of being made, the band was holding open auditions to find someone to replace Prewett.
