Former Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler has returned to the music scene with a new project called Shallow Rising. Teaming up with a group of talented musicians, including vocalist Alex Villarreal, guitarist Tim Ossenfort, bassist Taylor Brandt, and keyboardist Tim King, Shallow Rising is set to make waves in the modern American rock scene.
The formation of Shallow Rising began in a cold basement in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where Ossenfort started writing demos. Sharing these with his longtime friend Adler, the duo quickly realized they had the potential to create something special. The two musicians initially met at a recording session in Nashville and have maintained a strong friendship ever since. Their collaboration led to the creation of demos that would eventually evolve into Shallow Rising.
The band took their demos to Los Angeles, where they further refined their sound. It was during this process that Taylor Brandt and Tim King joined the group, solidifying the lineup. The group members had all previously toured together, making the transition to a full-fledged band a natural progression. Ossenfort also reached out to Alex Villarreal, another longtime friend, to complete the band’s lineup. The group spent the following year refining and rewriting their songs, ensuring that the final product was something truly unique.
In a recent interview with “The Liquid Conversations,” Adler reflected on the formation of Shallow Rising, describing it as an unexpected but welcomed project. He mentioned that it was a refreshing change from his previous work, with the band’s music carrying a positive message and a lot of love—something Adler felt had been missing from his life for a long time.
Adler’s departure from Lamb of God in 2020 was amicable, with the drummer stating that “everybody parted on good terms.” He left the band with fond memories and a lasting friendship with its members. Shallow Rising marks a new chapter in Adler’s career, allowing him to explore different musical territories while maintaining the intensity and passion that made him a household name in metal drumming.
