Eloy Casagrande gave a heartfelt interview with Brazilian channel Braba following his emotional homecoming performance at Knotfest Brazil. The Slipknot’s new drummer opened up about his gigantic setup, upcoming signature gear, and the deep meaning behind his distinctive mask.

The former Sepultura legend, known for his precision and infectious energy, has stepped into one of metal’s most strenuous drum thrones and seems like is there to stay.
Casagrande’s arrival to Slipknot has prompted a significant expansion of his kit. “I’m with a much bigger kit than I used to use before”, he explains, contrasting it with his more compact Sepultura setup. His current setup features a Tama Starclassic Bubinga kit with four bass drums — two 22”x16” and two 24”x14” — complemented by 10”, 12”, and 13” toms, plus 16” and 18” floor toms.
At the centre of his setup sits a prized Bell Brass snare, part of Tama’s recent reissue series, featuring matching Bell Brass hoops sourced from a specialist luthier. This combination delivers the volume and definition necessary for Slipknot’s dense sonic assault.
Casagrande’s cymbal setup remains largely consistent with his previous configurations, built around Paiste’s Formula 602 Modern Essentials series. His arsenal includes Masters Dark Crashes and a Novo China, which he praises for its “very short sustain” and explosive character. A recent addition is a thicker ride cymbal offering more defined ping characteristics, complemented by a 602 Classic crash for sustained accents.
His high-hat choice reveals both practical and personal preferences: “Now I’m using a 602 Modern Essentials 15” by Vinnie Colaiuta,” he notes, expressing admiration for the legendary drummer who collaborated with Paiste on the design.
The Casagrande’s upcoming signature drumstick line with Promark is something everyone is eager about. Produced with a new manufacturing process that allows for custom designs and artwork, the stick will feature a rougher, less varnished surface for enhanced grip — a greatly designed innovation for the demanding nature of Slipknot’s high-energy performances.
Eloy Casagrande announced: “Soon we will launch my signature model. It’s in development with Promark now“, adding, “We’re looking at the finish because it will have a different finish. They have a new machine that can make a different painting on the sticks. They can introduce any kind of detail, design, or phrase, so we’re elaborating cool art to launch this stick with”.
Casagrande’s impactful stage presence is enhanced by his thoughtfully designed mask, which serves multiple purposes. The white base color, chosen for better visibility on stage, also pays homage to former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, who famously wore white masks throughout his career. The design is an amalgamation of elements inspired by Brazilian indigenous tribes, connecting Casagrande to his roots while adding a distinctive personal touch to the band’s striking aesthetics.
The most notable feature — a bullet hole design on the forehead — carries deeper philosophical significance for Casagrande. “It’s like symbolizing my death”, he says, further explaining his mindset when wearing his mask: ‘Dude, I already have a bullet in my head, I’m already dead. Nothing I do now will change anything. I think this brings me greater freedom with the instrument”.
Despite his technical supremacy, Casagrande maintains a struct practice regimen. “I like to study every day”, he admits. His preparation philosophy focuses on achieving a state where technique becomes second nature, allowing him to focus purely on musical expression during performances.
“I study to precisely feel comfortable in this improvisation, so I don’t have to think during the show”, he explains. His pre-show routine involves running through the entire setlist daily for at least a week before performances, preparing both body and mind for the physical demands of a Slipknot show.
Slipknot continues to grow with Eloy Casagrande behind the kit. With signature gear and a fresh perspective on the band’s visual and musical legacy, Casagrande is clearly focused on honoring the past while pushing forward into the future.
