Scunthorpe Theatres welcomes Jam’s legendary drummer, Rick Buckler, for a night of reliving amazing memories and the prolific music created by the band later this year.

This event will be your opportunity to witness history in the making. Feel the beat of “A Town Called Malice”, and get immersed in the soulful sounds that defined an era, as he fondly recalls all his memories, videos, and music. The fans of the Jam are definitely in for the treat of their lives.

Formed in 1972 at Sheerwater Secondary School in Woking, Surrey, The Jam kept the tradition of three-minute, hook-driven British guitar pop alive, providing a comprehensive guide for generations of bands to come. Ruling the roost during the late1970s and early 1980s, the juggernaut three-piece comprised singer, guitarist Paul Weller and drummer Rick Buckler, and later bassist Bruce Foxton.

The Jam had 18 successive UK Top 40 singles from their debut in 1977 to their break-up in December 1982, including four number 1 hits. They released six studio albums and one live album. When the group split up, their first 15 singles were re-released, and all came within the top 100 on the UK charts.

The band drew upon a variety of aesthetic influences throughout their career, including 1960s beat music, soul, rhythm and blues, and psychedelic rock, as well as 1970s punk and new wave. The trio was known for its melodic pop songs, its uniquely English flavor, and its mod image. The Jam has become a massive part of British music culture – 1982 was the end of an era, but the start of an enduring legacy with The Jam.

Although the band’s creative output came to be attributed primarily to its singer/guitarist Paul Weller, its rhythm section of Buckler and Bruce Foxton (bass guitar) were integral to its sound, and in retrospect, Buckler felt that Weller had been given undue credit for the band’s song catalog to the detriment of its other members’ contributions.

The band broke up because of Weller in 1982, and Buckler and Weller – apart from a brief greeting exchanged in passing at a chance meeting – have not spoken to one another post the breakup.

Be a part of this unforgettable experience with fellow music enthusiasts, share stories, be part of an audience Q&A with Rick, and celebrate the tunes that have become eternal. This is a night that’s not just about the music; it’s about culture, camaraderie, and a whole lot of soul.

There will also be a book and memorabilia signing at the end of the show. The ticket costs £20 and will be held on 4th October 2024.
