Zildjian has recently released the Alchem-E Gold Ex drum set, a new product in their range that is a modern combination of the traditional cymbal-making skills and the modern drum module technology. This new kit is built to provide an authentic, immersive drumming experience which is very much needed by the serious drummers who are looking for both the expressiveness of an acoustic drum set and the convenience of electronic drums.

The Alchem-E Gold Ex has a module-based system which enables it to work on its own without the use of a computer, although it can be easily integrated with one. The drum module, Zildjian E-VAULT (ZEV1), is especially remarkable for providing access to a huge collection of sounds that cover 400 years of Zildjian’s history. Drummers can customize their setup in a great way with high-quality sounds.
The Alchem-E Gold Ex set also has three-zone cymbals that are part of the E-FAMILY line. These cymbals are made to be almost the same as acoustic cymbals in terms of feel and response but they have the advanced triggering capabilities. This configuration consists of 14” hi-hats, a 16” crash, and a 20” ride, all of which have the built-in triggers for the improved performance dynamics.
The drum kit in itself is designed with a focus on realism and responsiveness, so it is possible to play it in a way that captures subtle dynamics and articulations – unlike most e-drums. The kit has a 14″x5″ snare, 10″x7″ tom, 14″x12″ floor tom, and an 18″x12″ bass drum, all made of North American maple shells, to mimic the acoustic feel.
It’s quite a remarkable innovation. Zildjian Alchem-E Gold Ex kit is designed for the modern drummer and it includes the newest electronic drum technology with a wide range of sounds and customization. The onboard mixer and ambiance presets of the E-VAULT module allow drummers to adjust and fine-tune their sound environment too.
Is it worth the hefty price tag? That’s up to you, but the Zildjian Alchem-E Gold Ex is set to be a game-changer in the electronic drum market. Read more drum breakdowns here.
